School of robotics in Portugal: robotics lab for children with Lego WeDo
On 5 January 2012, Fausto Ferreira, CNR-IEIIT researcher, PhD Student at University of Genoa and School of Robotics collaborator was in Portugal coordinating robotics workshops for 4 years old kids in the kindergarten of Colégio de Alfragide, near Lisbon.

 

Using WeDo kits, the little children were able to build a small lion robot. These kids were already used to the presence of PCs in the classroom and therefore it was not difficult for them to follow the building guide on the PC screen. In the end, every child enjoyed the sounds and movements of the lion and lost the fear of interacting with a small robot. Some photos of these activities can be seen here:
